elations between France and
Russia are very intense and are
developing continuously.
Thirty-five companies in the CAC40 are
present at the Saint Petersburg
Economic Forum. We wish to maintain
and foster this cooperation. It is in the
interest of large, small and medium-
sized French companies to foster
relations with Russia’,
declared Sylvie
Bermann, the Ambassador of France
in Russia, during the launch of this
event.
France is the number one foreign
employer in Russia. There are five
hundred and twenty-eight they and
French companies have aggregate
revenues of around twenty-seven
billion euros. They are present in
every sector, from the extraction of
raw materials, with Total in Yamal
LNG, to retailing, thanks to Auchan,
Decathlon and Leroy Merlin, accor-
ding to Business France.
The French Pavilion: a showcase of
French excellence
More than thirty French business
travelled to Saint Petersburg for this
event, which focused on the spirit of
innovation in every sector, from the
automobile industry to agri-food,
energy and infrastructure, luxury,
health, finance and new technologies.
The members of this major official
delegation, which was led by
Emmanuel Macron, the President of
France, were able to meet their
Russian counterparts during the
forum.
The Pavilion also hosted events related
to French excellence in health, new
technologies with French Tech, the
city of the future through the Trianon
Dialogue and the industry of the
future with French Fab. It was also an
opportunity to strengthen bilateral
relations in the field of sciences. In
the French Pavilion, the French and
Russian Academies of Sciences,
which were represented by Catherine
Bréchignac, the permanent secretary,
a n d A l e x a n d re S e rg e e v , t h e
President, respectively, signed a
memorandum of understanding,
whose operational section is a first
in the relations between the two
institutions, which started nearly
three centuries ago.
This document, which was signed on
Friday 25 May 2018 in the presence of
Cédric Vilani and Stanislas Smirnov,
who were both awarded the Fields
Medal in 2010, is the culmination of
work that started in 2017.
The memorandum provides for
exchanges in the fields of physics and
astrophysics, life sciences, mathe-
matics and computer science, ocea-
nographic research and sciences and
technologies for the study of cultural
heritage.
On the occasion of the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum, which took place from 23 to 26 May 2018,
Business France organized a French Pavilion that was dedicated to know-how and innovation.
This operation promoted French savoir-faire.
