Supporting an increased percentage
of gas in the energy worldwide mix is
the Group’s leading contribution to
the fight against climate change. Our
partnership with Novatek is in line
with our gas development strategy in
general and especially our LNG stra-
tegy. It enables us to strengthen our
positions in a region that has a very
high potential of gas resources.
How do you see Total developing in
Russia in the longer term?
The second and third production
trains of Yamal LNG will be delivered
in late 2018 & early 2019, as well as
the remainder of the fleet of icebrea-
king LPG carriers. The success of the
start-up of Yamal LNG will ensure our
future viability and we are ready to
contemplate new investments in
Russia with our strategic partner
Novatek, starting with Arctic LNG 2,
for which we have just signed an
agreement for 10 to 15%.
Total has many other activities in
Russia. Our subsidiary SAFT, whose
high-tech batteries are already a
major success in Russia in the space
industry and transport, is highly
involved in the storage of energy for
future renewable electricity projects.
Total also has a major marketing
activity in Russia, mainly in the sale of
lubricants. This activity will be streng-
thened in 2018 when a new lubricant
manufacturing plant comes on line in
the Kaluga region, which will bring us
closer to our clients and improve the
responsiveness and competitiveness
of our services and products. Total
is also a partner of
Kamaz, the leader of
the Russian truck
market.
